February 7th - Sugar Pie Desanto

Last year, Sugar Pie passed away at the young age of 89 in 2024. Not only did she record some 45’s with Etta James like “Down in the basement” “Do I make myself clear” and “Somewhere down the line” but she was Etta James Cousin. This lil Half Black/ half Filipino woman was quite the force on stage. Those wild dance moves of hers. Even in her 80’s she could be found dancing and singing bare foot on the streets of San Francisco to a bad ass jazz blues band just girating her hips, dress in the air and not caring if you can see what’s under. I was so sad she passed but man, I’m happy we got to live in a lifetime with her. @nananastia @kqedarts
